    The American Cancer Society invites everyone to the Scott County community to celebrate cancer survivorship, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against cancer at this year’s Relay for Life event that will take place this Friday at Lake Iola starting at 4 p.m. on June 12 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 13.

    This year’s schedule of activities are as follows:
Friday, June 12
4 p.m. - Team registration begins.
5 p.m. - Survivor and caregiver dinner.
6 p.m. - Opening ceremonies. Celebrating 25 years of Relay for Life. Special guest speaker - Keri Hammons. Prayer led by Dennis Boley. Ice cream social by Scott County Farm Bureau and Scottsburg FFA.
6:20 p.m. - Survivor and caregiver lap.
6:25 p.m. - And We’re Off Team Lap.
6:30 p.m. - Bomar and Ritter
7 p.m. - Lunatic High.
7:30 p.m. - Kid Country
8 p.m.  - Mark Robinson Band
9 p.m. - Dwaine and Gretchen Colwell.
9:30 p.m. - Special Guest speaker - Denise Taylor.
9:45 p.m. - Luminaria ceremony
10:45 p.m. - Fight Back Ceremony.
12 midnight - Card games begin at barn. Movies begin in the barn. Quarters for a Cure Lap, Pop a quarter into the bin for each lap you walk.

Saturday, June 13

1 a.m. - Relaywood Character Lap.
2 a.m. - P.J. Lap
3 a.m. - Switch directions lap - walk lap in opposite direction.
4 a.m. - Crazy Hat and Silly socks lap.
5 a.m. - Favorite Team Spirit lap.
6 a.m. - Road to recovery rally at barn.
7 a.m. - Morning workout by Kim Kiefer.
8 a.m. - Breakfast by Scott County Farm Bureau and Scottsburg FFA.
8 a.m. - Dog Walk until 10 a.m.
8:30 a.m. - Cast Final votes for best team bra!
9 a.m. - Reach to Recovery Rally and SAG (Save A Gal) Awards at Barn.
9:30 a.m. - Collect any keepsake luminaria bags to take home with you.
10 a.m. - auction.
1:30 p.m. - closing ceremonies

Girls soccer to begin at Scottsburg High School PDF Print E-mail

    The Scottsburg sports scene is growing again. The ’09-’10 school year will introduce the first girl’s varsity soccer team at Scottsburg High School. The team will start to prepare for the season on Tuesday and Thursday nights at open field and conditioning practices. These practices begin June 9 and go every Tuesday and Thursday, except for the week of July 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the high school field.  Players are asked to bring their own water, shin guards and cleats.
    On July 20, the summer two-a-day practices begin. Physicals need to be performed before attending these practices. Specific times and locations for these practices will be passed out at the open field sessions. The first game is on August 17th at Madison. The complete game schedule is still being compiled at press time, but includes various conference games and an invitational tournament in Batesville.
    The coach of the team will be Scott Craig. Craig has been the Scottsburg Middle School co-ed coach for the past 3 years. He was part of the middle school’s first winning season, first undefeated season, expansion of the co-ed team and an all-girl’s middle school team this past fall. He is co-founder, president and coach for the Scott County Soccer Club. Craig is a United States Soccer Federation licensed coach. He holds several national coaching certifications. His National Youth license allowed him to assist with coaching with the Seymour U-19 boys travel team this spring. He brings over 10 years of coaching experience to the new program.

Crothersville Red, White and Blue Festival Set for June 11-13 PDF Print E-mail

    This year’s Crothersville Lions Club Red, White and Blue Festival will provide a lot of wholesome, family centered activities for everyone.
    The 34th annual salute to the veterans and the nation’s flag will be held Thursday through Saturday, June 11-13. Each day will be celebrated with a theme. Thursday will be Veterans night and everyone is asked to wear red in support of the veterans and those serving. Friday is Crothersville High School class reunion night. Everyone is asked to stop by the information booth for their name tag and graduation year. Saturday is designated Kids Day. All kids of all ages are encouraged to take part in the fun activities for the day.
    Fiesta Rides will kick-off the festival on Wednesday night with bracelet night.
    On Thursday, the Crothersville Athletic Boosters-sponsored baby contest will be held. Registration will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center, judging begins at 5 p.m. Winners will be announced from the stage at 6:15 p.m.
    All booths will open at 5 p.m.
    The Festival princess contest sponsored by Phi Beta Psi Sorority will be announced at 6 p.m.
The Festival’s emotion-stirring patriotic ceremonies will feature the local VFW Post No. 1083 accompanied by the ladies and men’s auxiliary at 6:30 p.m. Crothersville’s Most Talented will be center stage at 7 p.m. The talent show will be changed somewhat this year. Everyone is invited to share their talent from musical to comical. The winners will be determined by the people’s choice. People will have two ways to vote, text messenging or paper ballots. The cake walk sponsored by the VFW Post No. 1083 ladies auxiliary will be on Preston Street at 7:30 p.m. The Colwell’s Gospel Group will close out Thursday evening.

2nd annual Golf for Kids’ Sake June 6 PDF Print E-mail

    Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for individuals to participate in the Second annual Golf for Kids’ Sake golf scramble to be held Saturday, June 6th at Westwood Golf Course in Scottsburg.  This is an 18-hole event.  The cost is $40 per person, or $160 per team and includes green fees, golf cart and lunch.  Registration and lunch begins at 12 noon, with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.  Prizes will be given for first place, closest to the pin and longest drive. Individuals who wish to participate are encouraged to call the Big Brothers Big Sisters office at 752-6651. Organizers of this year’s Golf For Kids’ Sake event are Jim Morgan, Lee Anne Hahn, Vanessa Eldridge, Bryan Wallace, Sheilah Williams and Syd Whitlock.
    Golf For Kid Sake raises funds for the local Scott County Big Brothers Big Sisters agency.  This money helps the agency recruit, screen, train, match and support all volunteer/child matches throughout the year. Because of the organization’s efforts, over 100 children have a caring, volunteer mentor to spend time with on a regular basis.  Recent research has proven that one-to-one mentoring has a measurable impact on the lives of the children and youth.

Scott County Fair Booth and box seats available PDF Print E-mail

    The 2009 Scott County Fair Booth and Box Seats are still available for rent..
    At this time all booth and box seat renters during the 2008 County Fair have been notified about the 2009 rates and conditions for booth and box seat rental for the upcoming fair.
    If someone was a 2008 renter and have not received this information they need to call Ken McMichael at 752-8405 days or 752-4467 nights. Any person, club, group or vendor that was not a renter at the 2008 Scott County Fair, but would like to rent this year should also contact McMichael.
    New indoor and outdoor spaces have been added for this year’s fair and there are still spaces available on a first pay/first get basis.
    Box seats are still available on the same basis.
    Rental fees for 2009 are as follows:
    Inside booths are $125; outside booths - non profit $150, for profit $175 including the grandstand booths and box seats are $100.
    Anyone wishing to rent a space for th3 2009 Scott County Fair or wants more information should contact Ken McMichael at 752-8405 days or 752-4467 nights.
