Adapted from the 1967 Universal Pictures film starring Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore, the 2002 Broadway production of Thoroughly Modern Millie won five Tony Awards with its new musical score by Jeanine Tesori and Dick Scanlon, as well as its revamped storyline by Scanlon and Richard Morris.
It seems like everyone had something to contribute when tornadoes roared through parts of Pekin and Borden last year. Friends, neighbors and even people from outside southern Indiana stepped up to offer relief and support in the form of meals, money or simply a (quite literal) helping hand.
The fairgrounds’ loss, could be a gain for the Pierce-Polk Volunteer Fire Department. The commissioners decided at their regular meeting Feb. 5 there isn’t enough time or funds to try and secure a $400,000 Community Focus Fund Grant to help build a new building at the Washington County Fairgrounds.
Indiana Adult Education is currently offering free classes across southern Indiana for anyone interested in earning their GED. Students will learn all of the math, reading and writing skills necessary to prepare them for taking their GED certification exam. IAE can also assist those wishing to take Accuplacer test remediation for entrance into Ivy Tech Community College, and they offer ESL classes as well.
