The Pekin Fourth of July Festivities get underway Friday, June 29 in Pekin Park with Kid’s Day. On Sunday the kids make way for Praise Day at Pekin Park.

Plans are complete fror the 182nd Annual Pekin Fourth of July Festival.
The Pekin Community Betterment Organization finalized the schedule and released it early this week.
The following is a list of events planned, beginning Friday, June 29 through Wednesday, July 4.
Entry forms as well as the 15 young ladies competing for the title of Pekin Fourth of July Queen can be found on the inside section of this paper.

Camp Freedom – Equipping Youth for “The Battle” this Summer PDF Print E-mail

There is no doubt that today’s teenagers face more challenges than probably any generation before them. 
They are influenced by the internet, television, the media, their peers, so many sources of negativity. So then how do parents best combat these negative influences?  Where can they go for good direction and guidance?  Who will come alongside them and encourage them to rise above, to stand out, to be more than the low standard the world convinces them is acceptable? 

Local youth serve homeless at Exit 0 PDF Print E-mail

The youth group “3D - Draw, Develop, Deepen” from Pekin United Methodist Church feed the homeless last Friday at Exit 0.
There were 14 youth and five adults who prepared the meal and served it to more than 75.
The meal consisted of Barbecue Chicken that was furnished by the United Methodist Men as well as Baked Beans and potato salad.
Brownies and cupcakes.
Other items for the meal were donated by members of the church.

Miss Harvest Homecoming advances in Miss Indiana Pageant PDF Print E-mail

Last August, Paige Conrad was crowned Miss Harvest Homecoming 2011 and Miss Congeniality during the scholarship pageant in New Albany.
