    Laurie Carr has resigned from the Executive Secretary position with the Washington County Chamber of Commerce effective Friday March 27, 2009.  The Board of Directors wishes her luck and owes her a great deal.  Anita Bush has agreed to take over the positions’ responsibilities in the interim while the board solicits resumes’ and completes the hiring process.  They appreciate Anitas’ selfless efforts in helping the Chamber make this a seamless transition.

    The grand opening and dedication of the new Salem-Washington Township Fire Station 2 was held on Friday, April 3 and is now open and equipped to serve the community.
    “We have needed this for some time and I am pround the communioty has come together to make it possible.” stated Fire chief, Roger Pennington.
    “We now can respond to the South and Eastern part of the county in more effecent manner and time if needed. This is a practical solution and meets all of our criteria and was very cost effective, using no tax payers money.” said Pennington.
    According to Pennington  the new building needed to have a simple design, easy access to Main Street, in a location for furture expansion if needed and be competley paid for and this building fits all of our needs.

Salem's Gunner Irwin named Player of Year in Mid Southern boys' round ball PDF Print E-mail

    Salem senior Gunner Irwin has been named Player of the Year for the just completed 2008-09 season in boys’ basketball.
    His coach, Hank Weedin, has been picked by his peers in the coaching community in the league as the Coach of the Year.
    The rest of the All Mid Southern Conference picks are (in no particular order): Blaze Ayres (Brownstown), Taylor Wischmeier (Brownstown), Brandon Dunaway (Corydon), Robert Baker (Salem), Ben Raichel (Austin), Nick Townsend (Silver Creek), Spencer Robinson (Silver Creek), Chad Brady (Charlestown), and Matt Bridgewater (Scottsburg).

    The Salem Rotary Club will host a “Roast of Dr. Gene and Dr. Jack Hedrick” on Saturday, May 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Hall.
    The Salem Rotary Club is sponsoring the roast, not only yo honor the Hedrick's but also raise funds for two projects. The proceeds will benefit Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance and the worldwide Polio Eradication Fund project of Rotary International.
    Jack and Gene Hederick are twin brothers who were raised in Salem and come back to invest in their hometown. In 1952 Gene and Jack graduated from Salem High School. Gene was Valedictorian and Jack Salutatorian. Both are Indiana University graduates who engage in the practices of optometry and dentistry in Salem for over fifth years. They have served their community as professionals and donated their time and money to children in the community and in other countries. The Rotary wished to recognize these individuals for their contribution to the community.
    A catered meal will be served. Business or organizations may sponsor a whole table (seating for eight) for $250.00 donation Those business or organizations reserving a whole table will be recognized in the program as well as with a place care with their corporate name at their table. Individuals tickets are $30 each.
    Seating is limited and may be reserved in the order requests are received. Reservations must be received by April 25. For reservations call 883-3150.

John Hay Center holds Spring Fling Open House PDF Print E-mail

    On Saturday, April 4, the John Hay Center will have their Spring Fling Open House. Hours are from 1 to 4 p.m., with no charge to tour the Museum,Village and Depot. The public is invited to come and visit.
