At the recent Board of Commissioners held on Tuesday, November 30, the board voted unamouisly to adopt the Comprehesive Plan for Washington County.
Eric Rugsby spoke on behalf of the Planning Commission, stating everything that needed reviewed was complete and all changes that were requested have been done.
“With everything changed, this is a good plan and I believe it is suitable to move on, this is a hisotiric point and an important step for our County,” Rugsby said.

Resident suggests training for local elected officials PDF Print E-mail

At the recent Board of Commissioners meeting held on Tuesday, November 30, Rhonde Greene brought to the Commissioners a program that could help all of the Boards in the County with neccessary tools to be an effective board.
“There are so many well intended people trying to get together to make better changes,” Greene said.
Greene has talked with Margi Morris, who would administer the program with the cost of $5,000.

Plea closes door on deadly robbery attempt PDF Print E-mail

The book was closed on a year-old robbery case Nov. 22 when Skylar Naugle pled guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery, a Class B Felony.
Naugle admitted to conspiring with Ronald Chastain to rob his grandfather’s home on State Road 56 near Salem.
Chastain was shot and killed by Naugle’s grandfather during the robbery attempt. The shooting was ruled justifable homicide.

From teammates to foes, Newcomb, Starrett battle PDF Print E-mail

Joe Newcomb spent his high school playing days with Clay Starrett passing him the ball, but when Cornell College (Iowa) traveled to Franklin on Nov. 27, the two were wearing different uniforms.
Starrett is a junior on the FC basketball team and Newcomb is a senior at Cornell. It was the first meeting between the two since they graduated from Eastern.

Smoak, Smith Volunteers of the Year PDF Print E-mail

Two of The Depot railroad museum’s volunteers were honored at the Washington County Historical Society’s quarterly meeting Saturday, Nov. 20.
Jimmy Snook,  Clarksville, was named Volunteer of the Year for his work with The Depot’s caboose and rail car exhibit. Snook, a  retired conductor with the Louisville & Nashville and its successor railroads for 40 years, transformed Monon caboose 81402 from a static display to a real-life example  of a working caboose. He conducts tours of 81402 for individuals and groups, explains how rail motor cars were used by workers and demonstrates various railroad bells and whistles with an air-powered exhibit he helped design and create.
