Salem Fire Department Lt. Matt Gorman was seriously injured during a training exercise Saturday.
According to Salem Mayor David Bower Gorman suffered a head injury after being knocked down due to accident involving a release valve on the hose he was working with.

The East Washington Board of Education honored several students from Eastern High School at their May 10 meeting.
The top five kids (academically) in each of the four high school grades were honored first of all.
In the ninth grade, there was a three way tie for first: Nancy Dalton, Jordan Gray, and Abbigail McClellan all had 4.0 averages. Brayton Bradling and Melanie Knight were tied for fifth with an average of 3.925.
