The Indiana State Police increased efforts last weekend to take drivers who are under the influence of alcohol of the roadways.
In Washington County, those efforts led to six arrests being made.

St.Vincent to sponsor 4th Annual Jinny Scifres 5K Run 4 A Cause PDF Print E-mail

St.Vincent Salem Hospital will once again host the Jinny Scifres 5K Run 4 A Cause to benefit Relay for Life. The event will take place on Saturday, April 16 and will begin at the Salem High School track parking lot.
The Jinny Scifres 5k Run 4 A Cause was named in honor of Jinny Scifres who was Director of Nursing at WCMH (now known as St.Vincent Salem Hospital). Scifres, who was an avid walker, passed away from cancer in 2000.

On Thursday, March 03, 2011 at approximately 11:53 p.m. Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department along with the Washington County EMS and Pierce Polk Twp. Fire Department were dispatched to 5365 Elmer Martin Road regarding a single car motor vehicle accident.    Upon arrival Deputies located a White 1991 Isuzu Trooper driven by 19 year old Dylan T. Dizney of 6002 East Isgrigg Place, Pekin, crashed into a tree.
Dizney was killed instantly as a result of head and neck injuries sustained from the crash.
He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Alcohol and speed are believed to be involved as contributing factors.

The dates for Salem Speedway’s annual pre-season test & tune sessions have been released reports track management.  The short-track test is set for Saturday, March 19th with the high banks practice scheduled for Saturday, April 2nd.
The March 19th practice is only for divisions scheduled to compete on the Salem Speedway short-track during the 2011 season and the April 2nd date is exclusively for cars racing on the half-mile oval during the upcoming season.
The practice period, scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. both days, is open to Salem Speedway divisions and traveling series.  Pit gates open at 10 a.m.
