The Washington County Commissioners held their first meeting of the new year.
The major topic of discussion was the proposed jail expansion project.
Joseph Mrak with RQAW Corporation gave an update on the jail project.
Mrak was to meet with Washington County Sheriff Claude Combs to go over the plans and specifications.

East Washington Middle School wrestling team makes history PDF Print E-mail

Saturday was a historic day for the East Washington Middle School wrestling program. The Musketeers competed in the New Washington Invitational and won the first-place trophy.
The win could possibly be the first team trophy in wrestling the school has ever won.

On today’s date (Tuesday, January 8, 2013) at approximately 2:00 p.m., a search warrant was executed by detectives from the Indiana State Police and detectives from the Washington County Drug Task Force. The search warrant was executed at 400 Jackson Street, Apartment #2 in Salem, IN. During the search officers located Heroin and assorted drug paraphernalia.

To alleviate the pressing issue of the Salem Animal Shelter being understaffed, the county has been asked by the City of Salem to fund a part-time employee at a cost of $15,000 per year.
