The Floyd County and New Albany Stormwater Boards have been busy this year.  Efforts are being made to improve the water quality in Floyd County and New Albany. These efforts include education/outreach to the public, improvement projects and maintenance to the stormwater systems .

City follows county's lead, puts WCEGP funding on hold PDF Print E-mail

The Washington County Economic Growth Partnership took another hit this week when the Salem City Council voted to withhold $25,000 they had budgeted for the group in 2011 at its regular meeting Monday (Dec. 13).

The city council's move came off the heels of a similar decision made by the Washington County Council at its regular meeting on Dec. 6. At that meeting, the council decided to move money from the Growth Partnership's line item and put it into a fund that they council controls for economic development.

Shop with a Cop puts many smiles on area kids face PDF Print E-mail

The Scottsburg Wal-Mart was filled with 120 smiling kids from Washington County on Saturday morning, as the annual Shop with a Cop took place. Many officers and volunteers in the community arrived at the Sheriff’s Department at 7 a.m. and were bussed to Scottsburg, where the children each received one complete outfit, including shirt, pants, socks, underwear, shoes, winter coat and a toy. The children took their time to pick of the outfit that suited them best and most knew what toy they were going to get.

County looking for other options with economic development PDF Print E-mail

The Washington County Council voted 4-3 at its regular meeting Monday to discontinue its funding of the Washington County Economic Growth Partnership to the tune of $65,000 a year.

According to Councilman Mark Manship the council moved the money, in that section of the budget from line 02 to 03. The 02 line is the Economic Growth Partnership money and 03 is economic development money.

Comprehensive Plan is a go PDF Print E-mail

At the recent Board of Commissioners held on Tuesday, November 30, the board voted unamouisly to adopt the Comprehesive Plan for Washington County.
Eric Rugsby spoke on behalf of the Planning Commission, stating everything that needed reviewed was complete and all changes that were requested have been done.
“With everything changed, this is a good plan and I believe it is suitable to move on, this is a hisotiric point and an important step for our County,” Rugsby said.
