The West Washington girls’ basketball team ended last year’s campaign with an 11-13 record, but heading into this year they have high hopes and expectations to enter this year with a .500 or better record.

After going 2-8 a year ago, the South Spencer football team has seen an improvement in the way they play this year and Eastern (Pekin) found out the hard way on Friday night, Oct. 28 in their Class A Sectional 40 semifinal game at home.

Visiting Brownstown Central flexed its muscle early and often Friday night in the Class 3A Sectional 31 semifinal at Salem. Running the wing-T about as well as it can be run, the Braves scored on six of their eight possessions, with the two (rather meaningless) scoreless possessions being in the final seconds of the first half when they took a knee, and in the final drive of the game when the junior varsity players took to the field with the game well out of reach of the hosts.

The Salem girls’ basketball team had their ups and downs last season by finishing with a 12-11 record. They battled injuries all year and couldn’t quite get over the hump. They also went a disappointing 4-5 in the Mid-Southern Conference, so their main goal is to improve on that mark.
