All the cards are on the table and no stone will be left unturned are just two of the metaphors used to describe the county’s approach in tackling a nearly $329,000 budget shortfall in 2013.
The Washington County Council and the Washington County Commissioners held a joint meeting last Friday to discuss their options in dealing with the financial crisis.

The 2013 Salem Speedway racing schedule features 11 events and 13 days of on-track action at the historic southern Indiana venue.
The diverse schedule of national and regional programs includes a mix of traditional and new events, featuring both the .555-mile high banked oval and the quarter-mile infield track.
“We’ve put together a schedule with emphasis on special events while also continuing our strong commitment to local and regional divisions,” said Salem Speedway general manager Richard Deaton.

Council faces decision on hiring freeze PDF Print E-mail

When the Washington County Council met in December they voted to issue a hiring freeze on any position that would come open.
Now a little over a month out from making that decision, the council must decide if they want to replace Soil and Water Conservation District Manager Sandy Hortenberry.

The council approved a resolution from the Jail Expansion Committee that was basically the first step in getting the funding according to County Council Attorney Mark Clark.
The resolution included a petition that was signed by 95 tax payers in Washington County and also included the fact that there is a need for the project.
