The Eastern High School football team managed to make it through the entire season without getting a win.

The East Washington School Board voted to transfer Lisa Thomas to Principal of Special Projects for the remainder of the 2014-15 school year, according to Superintendent Steve Darnell.
Taking her place will be a familiar face as the board, at the same meeting, hired former principal Debbie Esarey.

Republicans dominated the national election and they didn’t do bad on a state and local level either.

The biggest surprise may have been Republican Erin Houchin unseating long-time State Senator Richard Young.

In Washington County, Houchin, a Republican got 5,069 votes compared to Young’s 2,186 votes.

One runner from Eastern’s girls’ team, the EHS boys’ and the Salem High School girls’ cross country teams will advance to semi-state Saturday after finishing strong at last week’s regional competition.

100 new jobs, $9 Million investment coming to Salem PDF Print E-mail

Salem City officials contacted local media last week to inform them there would be a major announcement Monday morning of more than 100 jobs and an investment into the community of between $8 and $9 million.

That’s exactly what happened as Kimball International announced that they are closing their metal fabrication production operations out west and moving it to Kimball’s facility in Salem.
