The Indiana High School Athletic Association announced pairings for the 39th annual state football tournament Sunday night. Only one of the three teams drew a home game against a team they’ve beaten in the last three years. The 1-7 Salem Lions haven’t gotten very much luck this year, but they did draw a home game against the only team they’ve beaten this year.
Two out of the three Washington County varsity football teams were in action Friday and picked up wins. The West Washington Senators traveled to Mitchell and returned to Campbellsburg with a 34-28 overtime win. “It was a fun to be a part of and one the coaches and players will always remember,” said Senator Head Coach Phillip Bowsman. “We’ve been battled tested this year. We haven’t played any bad teams. Mitchell was huge up front and they get after it. It was a pretty exciting game.”
In 2010 the Salem High School boys’ soccer team won the school its first Mid Southern Conference championship in that sport. Wednesday night at Charlestown, the Lions continued to set program milestones as they won the school its first-ever sectional championship in soccer, 4-2 over Austin.
