Beck’s Mill “Old Fashion May Day” PDF Print E-mail

The May Day celebration will be held on Saturday, May 9 from 10 am to 4 pm.  Parking lot activities (crafts, vendors & Wash Co Artisans Farmers Market) open at 10 am and the mill at 11 am with the dedication to the Flag and National Anthem by Lisa Adams to open this festive day.  Traditional May pole dancing with music by “Hoot Von Woot” and little Brooklyn Thompson and her fiddle.  Free halos to all the children that dance the May pole, face painting, children’s crafts.  Banjo music by Kathy Cress and local student art show at the old Beck cabin with people’s choice award given (25 cents a vote, vote as many times as you like).  Many demonstrations such as beading, apple peeling, rope making, spinning, lacemaking, mock moonshine, tool sharpening, pottery, blacksmithing, cane making and of course corn grinding!

S.R. 56 bridge work west of Salem PDF Print E-mail

Indiana Department of Transportation officials anticipate bridge work will begin at the end of April or early in May on State Road 56 at its steel beam structure spanning Highland Creek and the CSX railroad tracks west of Salem.  One half of the structure will be rehabilitated at a time—allowing traffic controlled by signals at either end of the bridge to continue crossing the structure.
