New traffic measures to improve exit safety and minimize disruption before, during and after the Sellersburg Celebrates! Town Fair have been given the green light.

The Sellersburg Celebrates!Committee approved the new route during its April meeting.

In the past fair traffic had always entered off of East Utica Street onto Service Drive circling to Sellersburg Community Park and exiting onto North Fern Street to Commerce Park and County Road 403.

Beginning this year traffic will reverse flow, and fair goers will only be permitted to enter off of County Road 403 onto Commerce Park Drive and North Fern entering the fair at Sellersburg Community Park on North Fern Street. Entrance from Service Drive will not be permitted.

“Every year we have received requests for new traffic measures from residents, fair attendees and the police officers that deal with traffic and parking,” said President Elect, Donald Ross, who is also the Deputy Chief of Police. “This year we felt we needed to reverse this one-way traffic flow, because of the growing popularity of our town fair, the amount of traffic that goes with that, the confusing cross over traffic at the entrance and exit to the park and a few near accidents we had on 403 last year. It was just very dangerous for everyone involved,” Ross added.

Local traffic will still be permitted access to their neighborhoods from East Utica Street by police permit as in the past.

Look for a colored map of this one-way traffic flow in an upcoming edition of The Leader.
