Local child to host walk to benefit Make-A-Wish PDF Print E-mail

    Anna Gregory, who was recently crowned N.A.M. Miss Indiana will be holding a walk benefitting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, Kentucky region in memory of Jennifer Springstun.
    The two mile walk will be held on September 26 at 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. in the Charlestown City Park. Registration will be $10. Forms will be available at the walk and also at Charlestown City Hall. They may also be picked up at Pacers and Racers.
    Free t-shirts will be given to the first 40 people to register. Water and apples will be provided at the race.
    The walk is in memory of Jennifer Springstun. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, Kentucky region.

Autumn on the River Prince and Princess contest to be held October 17 PDF Print E-mail

    The third annual Autumn on the River Prince and Princess contest will be held on Saturday, October 17. This year’s contest will be held on the main stage of the festival at 11:30 a.m. and will kick-off the weekend’s live entertainment.
    Contestants must be between the ages of four and six on October 17. The contest entry fee is $20 and is limited to the first 15 applicants. The deadline for entry is October 3. Proper attire for the contest is dressy, but not pageant type, dresses for the princess candidates. Appropriate attire for the prince candidates is collared shirts and slacks.
    All contestants will receive an engraved trophy with the winners receiving an additional trophy and a crown or tiara. The participants will also ride on the Prince and Princess float in the festival parade at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

New Washington boys basketball to host golf scramble September 19 PDF Print E-mail

    The New Washington High School boys basketball team is hosting their second annual golf scramble.
    The scramble will be held on Saturday, September 19 at Spring Hills Golf Course, 4766 W. Butler Falls in Hanover. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with participants teeing off at 9 a.m.
    The cost is $50 per person or $200 per team. The deadline to register your team is September 15.
    Lunch will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
    Prizes will include:
    *First Place- $300
    *Second Place- $200
    *Third Place- $100
    *Skin Pot Available- $20 per team
    *Mulligan- $5 per person
    *Longest Drive, Closest to Pin
    There will also be a raffle drawing at the end of the tournament. Each player will receive one ticket for the drawing. Additional tickets may be purchased for $5. Prizes will include golf equipment, shirts and Mustang apparel.
    Hole Sponsorship
    The team is also looking for hole sponsors for their upcoming tournament.
    The cost of a hole sponsorship is at least $100. Each sponsor will have a sign placed on a particular hole for the entire tournament.

Youth Power and Hope Awards Contest to feature lunch with Miss America PDF Print E-mail

    Indiana’s own Miss America 2009 Katie Stam and Electric Consumer, the statewide publication of Indiana’s electric cooperatives, are teaming up to recognize the community spirit of Indiana’s youth.
    The inaugural Youth Power and Hope Awards Contest emphasizes the important role young Hoosiers can play in their communities. The contest is open to Indiana fifth through eighth graders who reside within Clark County REMC service territory. Entrants must complete an entry form, submit an essay regarding community service, provide examples of how they have been involved in their local community, and include a letter of reference from a trusted adult.
    Five winners will be chosen from all entrants to attend a private luncheon with Miss American on December 17 in Indianapolis, have their entry essays published in Electric Consumer and be special guests at a presentation by Miss America at the Indiana statewide Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives’ 75th Annual Meeting on December 17, among other highlights. Fundraisers to be held for local man recovering from recent motorcycle accident PDF Print E-mail

    Two fundraisers are being planned for a local man who is recovering from a recent serious motorcycle accident.
    Ryan Clausing of Memphis, was traveling home on Friday, August 7 when he was involved in a motorcycle accident just seconds from his home.
    Clausing was STAT flighted to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment, where he is still recovering from his injuries.
    He sustained extensive injuries including a spinal cord injury at T4 level, severe leg injury from the knee down on his right leg, collapsed right lung, bilateral lung contusions, heart contusion and broken clavicle, scapula, wrist and ankle.
