    The Charlestown Youth Lady Pirates will be holding try-outs for its fourth and fifth grade girl’s travel teams, Thursday, August 20 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Charlestown Civic Center.
    These try-outs will only be for girl’s starting fourth and fifth grade and attending any Charlestown elementary school. There is no cost for the try-outs and all girls that meet the above requirements are encouraged to attend. The teams compete in various leagues and tournaments running from early fall through the end of March 2010. Most, if not all tournaments and league fees are paid through sponsorships, fundraising and generous donations.

    The CYLP is a girl’s youth basketball league made up of players that attend Charlestown schools and is run by parents in the community volunteering their time and talents to help these girl’s become better players on and off the court.

    The West Clark Community Schools student art exhibit, sponsored by Art in Speed Park 2009, will be held on Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30 at Speed Memorial Church Recreational Building (adjacent to Art in Speed Park).
    The student art exhibit for students attending the West Clark Community Schools of Borden, Henryville and Silver Creek.
    The categories are divided by: Elementary (Grades 1 to 6), Middle School (Grades 7 and 8) and High School (Grades 9 to 12, including graduating seniors).
    Elementary categories will include drawing (pencil, ink, pastel (chalk) and oil pastel on paper, poster board or foam board) and painting (acrylic or oil on canvas, masonite or canvas board).
    Middle and high school categories will include drawing (pencil, ink, pastel (chalk) and oil pastel on paper, poster board or foam board), painting (acrylic or oil on canvas, masonite or canvas board), textile (woven, constructed and basket), ceramic (hand-built, wheel thrown, tile, etc. glazed, unglazed, painted or stained. Pieces may be functional or sculptural and may include mixed-media with clay) and sculpture (all materials except clay, wood, metal, plastic or wire).
    All 2-D artworks must be ready for hanging with sturdy appropriate materials (i.e. wire, heavy mono-filament, etc.). Any entry that is not display ready for hanging will be automatically disqualified.

Sellersburg Celebrates! committee announces upcoming events for festival PDF Print E-mail

    The Sellersburg Celebrates! committee has announced some of the events being planned for the upcoming festival. Sellersburg Celebrates! will be held at Silver Creek Township Park Thursday, Friday and Saturday, August 27, 28 and 29. This year's theme is “Building Bridges.”
Community Luncheon
    The Sellersburg Celebrates! community luncheon will be held on Friday, August 28 at Nolan Fieldhouse located at 5010 Progress Way in Sellersburg.
    The social will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the luncheon being held from 12 noon to 1 p.m.
    This year’s guest speaker will be Indiana University Men’s Basketball Coach Tom Crean. He will be introduced by former Sellersburg resident and Indiana University basketball player Steve Green.
    The luncheon will be catered by KFC.
    Tickets are $20 each and you may purchase a table of 10. Tickets are available at Ray’s Lawn and Garden (246-6309), Jackson Physical Therapy & Associates, Inc.     Charlestown Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting, in conjunction with the Digital Connectors of Charlestown, is proud to announce the inaugural Pirate Football Season Preview Show; live from the Charlestown Pizza Company, located on the square at 850 Main Street.  
    The show, a special edition of “Talk with ‘Coach’ Hawk”, will feature Charlestown High School Football Coach Jason Hawkins in a question and answer discussion of the upcoming Pirate and Mid?Southern Conference football seasons; moderated by Pirate Pride Sportscasters Bud McQuillen and Michael Grayson.  
    The Pirate Football Season Preview Show will be held on Wednesday, August 19 beginning at 7 p.m. and will be broadcasted over the internet via live streaming audio by Charlestown Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting at www.CharlestownPiratePride.com.

Clark Memorial Hospital shares how Bariatric Program patients lost over five thousand pounds PDF Print E-mail

    Clark Memorial Hospital's Bariatric Program is holding a free seminar on Thursday, August 13 at 6:30 p.m. for anyone considering a gastric banding procedure for weight loss.
    The free information seminar includes a presentation by surgeons Dr. Brice Hamilton and Dr. Daniel MacMillan. During the presentation, the surgeons will discuss obesity and the gastric banding procedure. Program Coordinator Carolyn McKee will also speak on the benefits of the comprehensive follow-up program at Clark Memorial, program successes, including a total weight loss for the program of over 5,000 pounds, and basic insurance information. A question and answer time will conclude the seminar.
    The seminar is free to the public, however, reservations are requested. To register, or for more information on the bariatric program, contact Clark Memorial's Bariatric Program Coordinator, Carolyn McKee at (812) 283-2087.
