ISP Apprehends Motorist on I65 with One Pound of Marijuana PDF Print E-mail

On Sunday, Oct. 4, around 3 a.m. a Clark County police officer saw a Saturn driven by 22-year-old Jeffrey Smeltz, "fail to signal its intent to turn (west) from the Interstate 65 NB exit ramp to State Road 60."

The officer stopped the vehicle in the area of SR 60 and Hamburg Way. The arrest report states the officer noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the car and asked Smeltz if he had smoked marijuana recently. Smeltz admitted to smoking earlier in the day and told the officer there was marijuana in the center console.

During a search of the vehicle, the officer found a large amount of cash ($3,252) and approximately one pound of marijuana with an estimated street value of $3,000.

Also found during the search: a waxy substance that Smeltz identified as hash oil and several scales.

Smeltz is now charged with dealing in marijuana, hash oil or hashish, possession of marijuana, hash oil, hashish or spice, possession of paraphernalia, and maintaining a comment nuisance.

Governor Mike Pence joined executives of Toyota Tsusho Corporation in Nagoya, Japan, recently as the company announced plans to locate a new automotive supply chain operation in Charlestown. The facility will be home to Magnolia Automotive Services, LLC, which is an affiliate of Toyota Tsusho America Inc.
