Scottsburg police were surprised to find weapons in car being driven by a convicted felon early on Friday morning, July 27, in Scottsburg,
The blue Toyota driven by Paul D. Stucker, 52, Scottsburg, first attracted the attention of patrolmen Troy Ford and Shawn Hurt as it pulled out of a bank parking lot onto Sara Lane. As it proceeded east on Owen Street, the car reportedly picked up speed. Ptl. Ford and Hurt stopped the car after they confirmed it was speeding at 35 mph in a 20 mph zone.

A Scottsburg woman had her dog impounded on July 19 after the animal bit a mail carrier and then found herself in jail on July 24 on a variety of drug-related charges.
Shauna L. Lucas, also known as Shauna L. Merritt, 34, first came to law enforcement attention on Thursday, July 19, when her dog allegedly attacked and bit a female mail carrier twice.

Austin couple arrested for alleged animal abandonment/neglect of three dogs PDF Print E-mail

Three dogs remain in the custody of the Scott County Animal Shelter while their alleged owners face criminal charges in Scott Superior Court.

 

According to the probable cause affidavits filed in the cases of George Helton, 28, and Rebecca G. Smith, 25, the three canines, all mixed breed boxers, were found by animal shelter staff "...to be emaciated and in poor health..." at the end of June. There was no food or water for any of the dogs, the document stated, and all were on separate chains around the West York Road home of Helton and Smith.
