Scott County Treasurer, Sheryl Jent, reminds everyone that Tuesday, November 10 is the payment deadline for 2014 property tax, payable in 2015. The original statements were mailed out April 15 which included both spring and fall coupons.

Treasurer states the taxpayers have several payment options: 1) In-person at the Treasurer’s office located on the east side of courthouse. 2) Locked drop-box located at the counter of Treasurer’s office to avoid waiting in line. 3) Call 812.752.8414 to pay by phone; however, credit/debit card transaction fees do apply. 4) Mail check along with payment coupon to: Scott Co. Treasurer, 1 E. McClain Avenue, Suite 140, Scottsburg, IN 47170. Non-sufficient funds will VOID tax payment. Mailed payments must have a Postal Service postmark on or before Nov. 10, 2015. Receipt(s) can be mailed to taxpayer if self-addressed stamped envelope is enclosed with payment. To ensure prompt posting of your tax payment, please detach and return payment coupon with your payment or write parcel number on check. Due to the increase of counterfeit currency, patience is asked while the staff inspects “ALL BILLS” when paying by cash.

Banks also conveniently accept tax payments and offer Saturday hours that the courthouse does not. You MUST present fall coupon. Hours of operations are:

YOUR COMMUNITY BANK - (formerly Scott Co. State Bank) Mon, Tues, Thurs 8:30-4:30; Wed & Sat 8:30-Noon; Fri 8:30-5:30

NEW WASHINGTON STATE BANK - Mon, Tues, Thurs 8:30-5; Wed & Sat 8:30-Noon; Fri 8:30-5:30

The following credit/debit cards are accepted as payments: Visa, MasterCard, Discover & American Express; however, there is a $2 portal admin fee plus 2% of property tax amount that is added and collected by LoGO Indiana.

Four felony charges were filed in Scott Circuit Court against an 18-year-old father after he allegedly struck his pregnant girlfriend.

Colton G. Napier was arrested at the home he shared with the girlfriend and other family members on Saturday, October 17, by Patrolman Travis Rutherford of the Scottsburg Police Department.

The officer was dispatched to the residence after a 9-1-1 call was received by authorities.

Ptl. Rutherford talked to the girlfriend, who said she is nine weeks pregnant with the couple's second child. She said Napier had been drinking and had thrown items in the kitchen and then punched a hole in a bedroom wall. She said he also slapped her across the face and kicked her in the stomach.

The girl's mother said she was present during the altercation and witnessed what happened. The woman said she was holding the couple's eight-month-old son when Napier pushed her because she tried to stop him from assaulting her daughter.

Napier had left the house by the time Ptl. Rutherford arrived. When he returned later the same day, the officer found Napier in the house and placed him in custody.

He reported in the probable cause affidavit that, as he tried to put a seatbelt on Napier after he was seated in the officer's squad car, the young man attempted to “headbutt” him. Ptl. Rutherford was not injured because he avoided contact. Then, Napier allegedly spat at the officer.

When Napier arrived in court on Tuesday, October 20, he learned that he was charged with Level 5 felony battery, Level 6 domestic battery, attempted battery and battery and Class A misdemeanor battery.

A preliminary plea of not guilty was entered for Napier, and an initial jury trial date of March 1, 2016, was scheduled by Judge Roger Duvall.

Bond was set at $50,000 by corporate surety bond or $10,000 cash.

Napier also has two protective orders filed against him, which require him to have no contact with the girlfriend or her mother.
