A youth who had just turned 19 and was looking forward to his high school graduation at the end of May was buried Tuesday, April 3.
Matthew Charles “Matt” Nugent died at the scene of a two-car crash in front of his family’s home that occurred just before 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 29. The accident took place on Slab Road, perhaps 75 feet north of the road’s intersection with Lori Lane, and just north of the property of New Providence Baptist Church and its cemetery.

20 people injured, one dies in March vehicle crashes occurring on Scottsburg, county roads PDF Print E-mail

March wasn’t a good month, statistically speaking, for injuries reported in traffic accidents in Scott County.
Among the total of 21 people who sustained injuries in vehicular crashes that have occurred since March 8 in Scottsburg and Scott County was one death, that of a 19-year-old senior from Austin High School.

State United Way association announces $3.15 million grant from Lilly Endowment for Indiana storm relief and recovery efforts PDF Print E-mail

The significant recovery facing Southern Indiana communities from tornadoes early this month leaving a 50-mile trail of damage received a boost today as the Indiana Association of United Ways announced a grant of $3.15 million from Lilly Endowment Inc. for disaster recovery. IAUW will administer the grant designed to help communities and individuals.
IAUW will use this funding for immediate start up and long-term recovery efforts at the county level in counties damaged by 2012 storms, including Clark, Washington, Scott, Jefferson, Ripley and Warrick counties. More than 800 homes were damaged; many were completely destroyed.

Scottsburg Winter Guard Wins State Championship! PDF Print E-mail

On Saturday, March 17, 2012 the Scottsburg Winter Guard captured their first Class A State Championship at the Indiana High School Color Guard Association’s State Finals. Going in ranked first out of thirty three other schools, the twelve talented ladies gave a performance to remember. Earning an impressive 85.2, they were able to pull ahead by two points over second place Zionsville and third place Muncie Southside. Performing their 2012 show titled “Remembered in Stone”, they executed a flawless show while taking the audience and judges on an emotional journey. At the completion of their show, the audience rose to their feet in approval after witnessing such a memorable performance.

Some personal items found after March 2 storms can be brought to Recorder’s Offices PDF Print E-mail

March 2 storm victims know what it’s like to lose everything, including precious family photos, certificates and personal papers.
Now, victims are being encouraged to contact their county recorders’ offices because those who have found such items after the storms are being asked to bring them to those offices.
