A 23-year-old Scottsburg man continues to be held at the Scott County Security Center after allegedly threatening and holding a gun to the head of a relative.
Scottsburg Patrolman Troy Ford was advised of threatening phone calls reportedly being made by Justin C. Richie on May 1 to the mother of his children. After just a few minutes, a friend of the mother called 9-1-1, saying that Richie was in her driveway in a red Chevy S10 pickup.

Two charges have been filed against a driver who was involved in a rear-end accident that occurred on Friday, April 22, in Austin.
Major Donald E. Spicer received a dispatch about a gold-colored Buick that had been observed by other motorists on Interstate 65 being driven in a reckless fashion. Motorists’ reports related that the northbound car was driving “...at high rates of speed...” and passing other vehicles on their right or left. At one point, a motorist reported that the car had even gotten in the grass.

The victim was severely beaten about the face and suffered a deep slash wound to her throat. She was also reportedly sexually assaulted twice by Johnson. The incident occurred on June 28, 2009, in the woman’s apartment on the city’s north side.

The November 8 General Election should be interesting in Scottsburg, thanks to a roster of both Democrat and Republican candidates who have been nominated to run for offices.
Mayor Bill Graham was readily renominated to keep the job he’s held since the 1980s, despite a good race by challenger Christopher Albertson. Graham captured 70% of the ballots cast on May 3 for a vote total of 297 to Albertson’s 30% or 130 votes. Other Republican candidates ran unopposed. Tim Hoard is now the Republican candidate for an At-Large seat on the City Council. Jim Fleenor will be running in Council District 2, and Bill Banta is the nominee for Council District 4.

Austin Democrat Primary offering some new nominees for Council seats PDF Print E-mail

The biggest race in the Democrat Primary Election in Austin this past Tuesday, May 3, was, of course, the battle between incumbent Douglas Campbell and challenger Brandon Glenn White.
In this race, Mayor Campbell won by a wide margin of 65% to 35%, getting 640 votes to White’s 347. The result, however, has been decidedly muddied, since White supporters filed a complaint of voter fraud against the Mayor and a city worker, Terry Danner, late in the day on Monday, May 2. (See related story.)
No one can forecast its conclusions or its effect on that race.
