Scottsburg residents' curbside leaf pick-up routes to begin on November 9 PDF Print E-mail

Scottsburg residents wanting to get rid of those pretty autumn leaves falling on their lawns can do so starting Monday, November 9.

Residents are asked to rake leaves to the curbside and leave them in piles. Starting November 9, a street crew will be vacuuming loose leaves and trucking them away. Two trucks will start that day on the east side of Scottsburg and north of State Road 56 (McClain Avenue) and work their way north.

From Scott Memorial Hospital, the crews will work back down the west side of U.S. Highway 31 (Gardner Street), until they reach S.R. 56. From there, they will start on the south side of S.R. 56 and the west side of U.S. 31 to the Scott County Fairgrounds.

Reaching that destination, both trucks will then run together back up S.R. 56. This route will be worked two times, advised Jason Applegate, Scottsburg Superintendent of streets, sewer, sanitation and parks.

Applegate stressed that leaves must be raked to the edge of the curb because leaf crews are not allowed on private property and cannot come into yards to get them. If leaves are not at curbside, they cannot be collected.

Residents are also asked to make sure brush, limbs and trash are not co-mingled with leaves. These objects could endanger workers and cause equipment to break down.

Leaves are not to be placed in bags. Bagged leaves will not be picked up by crews.

Scott County Treasurer, Sheryl Jent, reminds everyone that Tuesday, November 10 is the payment deadline for 2014 property tax, payable in 2015. The original statements were mailed out April 15 which included both spring and fall coupons.

Treasurer states the taxpayers have several payment options: 1) In-person at the Treasurer’s office located on the east side of courthouse. 2) Locked drop-box located at the counter of Treasurer’s office to avoid waiting in line. 3) Call 812.752.8414 to pay by phone; however, credit/debit card transaction fees do apply. 4) Mail check along with payment coupon to: Scott Co. Treasurer, 1 E. McClain Avenue, Suite 140, Scottsburg, IN 47170. Non-sufficient funds will VOID tax payment. Mailed payments must have a Postal Service postmark on or before Nov. 10, 2015. Receipt(s) can be mailed to taxpayer if self-addressed stamped envelope is enclosed with payment. To ensure prompt posting of your tax payment, please detach and return payment coupon with your payment or write parcel number on check. Due to the increase of counterfeit currency, patience is asked while the staff inspects “ALL BILLS” when paying by cash.

Banks also conveniently accept tax payments and offer Saturday hours that the courthouse does not. You MUST present fall coupon. Hours of operations are:

YOUR COMMUNITY BANK - (formerly Scott Co. State Bank) Mon, Tues, Thurs 8:30-4:30; Wed & Sat 8:30-Noon; Fri 8:30-5:30

NEW WASHINGTON STATE BANK - Mon, Tues, Thurs 8:30-5; Wed & Sat 8:30-Noon; Fri 8:30-5:30

STOCK YARDS BANK - Mon, Tues, Wed & Thurs 9-4; Fri 9-5:30

The Treasurer says if you can’t pay the entire tax amount due, please come in and make a partial payment to avoid any additional penalty. Partial payments are accepted year round. Please keep in mind any unpaid taxes will automatically receive penalty after Nov 10.

The following credit/debit cards are accepted as payments: Visa, MasterCard, Discover & American Express; however, there is a $2 portal admin fee plus 2% of property tax amount that is added and collected by LoGO Indiana.

Questions regarding: Assessments – Assessor’s Office – 752-8436; Exemptions/Deductions – Auditor’s Office – 752-8408; Taxes – Treasurer’s Office – 752-8414.
