Some candidates in November 8 municipal election won’t be on ballots PDF Print E-mail

Thanks to a state law which took effect this past July 1 in Indiana, some candidates for offices in the November 8 municipal election will not be listed on ballots issued to voters in Austin and Scottsburg.
According to the new law, HEA 1242, 47 and 48, if there is no candidate or only one candidate for a city or town office, an election cannot be held for that office. Write-in candidates are considered candidates under the law. The law affects both municipal elections, such as those scheduled in Austin and Scottsburg this fall, and general elections in which towns have scheduled elections for some or all of their offices.
