FC plays better in opener, but still falls to Louisville Male

Louisville Male, which went 15-0 en route to the Class 6A state championship in Kentucky last season, picked up right where it left off Friday at Scott Field with a 34-10 victory over Floyd Central in the lid-lifter for both teams.

Floyd Central’s “Superchicks” cross country team won their fifth-straight (and seventh in the past eight years) sectional Saturday at Crawford County. The Lady Highlanders placed their five scoring runners in the first eight spots and had all seven runners in the Top 10. Floyd’s Kyley Sorg was second in the race by .56 of a second to sectional champion McKenna Cavanaugh of Christian Academy, who won in 19:19.17.
