Horseshoe Foundation Floyd County to Award $300,000 to charitable organizations PDF Print E-mail

The Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County awarded $300,000 in grants to community organizations on Wednesday, June 27th, 2011.  The celebration will be held at the Cardinal Ritter Birthplace, on East Oak Street, in New Albany.
“The Grants Committee and Board are continually impressed with the great work being done in our community by charitable organizations- as well as the great need,” Horseshoe Foundation’s Executive Director Jerry Finn said.  Forty-two applicants sent requests to the foundation this spring totaling $680,000.  Thirty organizations received grants totaling $300,000.  Those organizations included:

Local trombone player takes part in record breaking ensemble PDF Print E-mail

A Guinness world record was set on June 1, 2012 by the largest all-trombone ensemble ever gathered together to play in one place. The participants came from across the country to perform at the Washington Nationals baseball field in Washington D.C. and ranged in ages from 8 to 77. They played a newly composed arrangement of (what else?) The Music Man classic “76 Trombones”, retitled “7600 Trombones” for the special occasion.

Floyd Central’s Emerald guard has great season PDF Print E-mail

Floyd Central Emerald Guard competed in the TriState Circuit (Ohio, Kentucky, & Indiana) Winter Guard Championships on March 31.  They traveled to Ryle High School in Union, KY and competed against 13 other high school winter guard units.  As they “took the floor in championship competition” they were undefeated.  They captured the Championship title in Scholastic Class A-2 for the first time.  In 2010, they received a bronze.  They will now move up to Scholastic Class A.
