?New Pekin Town Council welcomes trial date PDF Print E-mail
?    The New Pekin Town Council met in regular session on Tuesday August 12, with all members present.  The minutes
of previous meetings, all payroll requests, claims, and sewer adjustment requests were approved unanimously.
    Quickly dealing with the aforementioned business, the Council heard from Town Manager, Gary Nale.  Nale
informed the Council that a trial date has been set for a lawsuit resulting from a long standing dispute between the
Council and a Scott County developer regarding reimbursement for work done by the developer in a housing
development on Blue River Road near the East Washington Schools campus.  
    According to Nale, September 16 and 17 have been set for the case to be heard by Scott County Superior Court
Judge, Nicholas South, in Salem.  Nale seemed to speak for the Council members when he said, “This has dragged on
too long–it needs to go to trial.”

?Floyd County property tax advance payment options PDF Print E-mail

 ?   Officials with the Floyd County Treasurer’s Office recently provided some information regarding the 2007 property taxes.
    No due date is available for the 2007 pay 2008 tax billing cycle. Because of this delay, taxpayers may want to consider making an advance payment to the Floyd County Treasurer. Advance payments are credited towards the amount of taxes that will be due, and can only be accepted directly by the Treasurer’s Office.

?Harrison County man arrested in fatal hit and run PDF Print E-mail
?    On the evening of August 14, troopers and detectives from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg
arrested Bryan A. Stephens, 21, of Oak Street in New Salisbury, in connection with a fatal hit and run accident earlier
this month. Stephens was incarcerated in the Clark County Jail on preliminary charges of Failure to Stop for a Fatality
Crash, a C Felony.
    Troopers received a tip late in the afternoon on August 13 at the Sellersburg State Police Post that the
possible vehicle involved in the fatal hit and run that occurred on August 2 on Interstate 65 at approximately 4:07
a.m., was located at an address on Oak Street in New Salisbury. Troopers immediately went to the location and
secured a search warrant to seize the vehicle and other possible evidence of the crime.

?Borden youth football to open home field PDF Print E-mail
?    The Borden youth football league would like to invite the community to its first ever home games of the Borden youth football Braves.
    They are planning a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the new football field inside the Borden track on Sunday August 24th, the ribbon cutting will be held before the first game at 1:30p.m.
    The Braves Pee Wee ( 3 and 4 grades) playing against Henryville at 2 p.m.
    The Braves Juniors ( 5 and 6 grades) playing against Henryville at 3:30 p.m. followed by the Seniors (7 and 8 grades) also playing Henryville at 5 p.m.

?Driving while impaired crackdown begins PDF Print E-mail
??    As of August 15, the Indiana State Police along with over 250 other police agencies across Indiana have begun participating in an Operation Pull Over, “Over the Limit under Arrest” campaign. This “Over the Limit under Arrest” project is being sponsored by a federal grant through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute and with this grant officers will be concentrating on impaired drivers.
    During this Operation Pull Over campaign officers will be working overtime conducting sobriety checkpoints, roaming patrols, and using other enforcement tools to catch impaired drivers. Officers will not only be looking for impaired drivers in cars but also motor carrier vehicles and motorcycles.
