FCHS says farewell to the Class of 2014 PDF Print E-mail
A winter filled with snow days and extreme cold prolonged the school year from local students.
But members of Floyd Central’s Class of 2014 got to don the hats and gowns and walked the isle for their diploma at the school’s recent graduation celebration.
More photos and a story from FC’s graduation will be printed in next week’s issue (June 18) of The Banner.

BRS Children’s Services graduations and award ceremonies PDF Print E-mail
The Children Services department at Blue River Services hosted events to recognize children for their accomplishments during the school year.  The 21st Century Community Learning Center programs celebrated at their Award Ceremonies and the Rainbow’s End Child Care Centers celebrated at their Preschool Graduations.
Award Ceremonies are celebrated by parents and staff and school day teachers and administrators.  The programs are designed to ensure that all participates are recognized.  Events were held at all 6 elementary sites – Corydon Elementary, Heth-Washington Elementary, New Middletown Elementary, South Central Elementary, North Harrison Elementary and Morgan Elementary.
Special awards given out this year included, but were not limited to, MyOn Reading Award ( for the student that read the most online books during the year, the Think Through Math Award for the student at each school that progressed the furthest during the year using this online math program, the Attendance Award, Good Helper Award, 110% Effort Award, and Citizenship Award,  In addition, each school designates one student each year to receive a 21st CCLC Director’s Award which is presented to the student who has most benefited from their participation in the 21st CCLC program.
Rainbow’s End in Corydon had 16 graduates.  This ceremony was held at Corydon Presbyterian Church.  The children presented many of the things they have learned over the last year including: Alphabet, counting in English and Spanish, days of the week, months of the year and spelling their own names.  After their knowledge demonstration the preschoolers put on a mini musical “Pete The Cat, School Shoes.” After the program was complete all enjoyed at time of celebration with cake and punch.  There were just over 130 in attendance total.
Rainbow’s End in Georgetown had 7 graduates.  The ceremony was held at the Optimist Club and their theme was “Kindergarten, Here We Come!”!   The Rainbow’s End in Salem had one graduate.  Even though there was only one child leaving preschool at Rainbow’s End to enter Kindergarten from this center, the staff held a graduation party complete with graduation cupcakes and a cap and gown ceremony.
Much appreciation is expressed to the teachers and coordinators for their hard work and dedication, not only for planning and putting on such a terrific show, but for their hard work and dedication throughout the year.
 
Wilson crowned 2014 Miss Floyd County PDF Print E-mail
The second time was a charm for 2014 Floyd County Fair Queen Ashley Wilson.
After entering the contest at 16 and coming up short, she decided to give it another try before she heads off to college and it paid off.
