Varsity teams from across the state of Indiana competed in the 2015 Indiana Cheer Championship competition at Lucas Oil Stadium, in downtown Indianapolis, on October 31.

The Floyd Central team claimed the state championship.

Another team from Floyd County, the New Albany cheerleaders finished second.

The third Place team was Woodlan Jr/Sr HS; Fourth Place went to Hamilton SE HS and the fifth place team was Greenfield Central HS.

Building on a legacy of support for America’s military and their families, the Ponderosa Steakhouse restaurant in Scottsburg, will offer free meals to all active and retired military in the area on Monday., Nov. 16, from 4 p.m. to close. The restaurant will also donate a portion of proceeds for every Pepsi® beverage sold during November to the Wounded Warrior Family Support, which supports the families of those who have been injured, wounded or killed during combat operations.

The Ponderosa Steakhouse in Scottsburg which opened in 1988, is located at 1211 W. McClain Ave.

“Ponderosa Steakhouse restaurants have a long-standing tradition of supporting our military,” said Mike Everhart, Owner of the Ponderosa Steakhouse in Scottsburg “It is our pleasure and an honor to give back to the people that sacrifice to ensure our freedom and liberty.” Everhart’s locations in Madison and Louisville will also be participating.

During the past 50-plus years, the Ponderosa brand has become an American dining tradition, the place for great steak, an abundant buffet and friendly service. For decades, the Ponderosa in Scottsburg has actively supported the local community, including many charities and local organizations. Rivalries and basketball fever will come together for a good cause at the Scott County Youth Grantmaking Council’s first-ever Thanksgiving Throwback Throwdown fundraiser! The Austin versus Scottsburg game will feature alumni from the schools battling for a coveted traveling trophy and bragging rights.

The big event will be held Sunday, Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. at Meyer Gym in Scottsburg. Tickets are $3 for students and seniors, and $5 for adults. Concessions will be available. There will be a half-time contest and prize as well. Fans are welcome to stay after the game for an autograph session with their favorite players.

Many players, ranging from from the Class of 1973 through the most recent graduating class of 2015 have committed to play this fun event. The YGC is still recruiting players. They are seeking all ages, male and female, who graduated from the local high schools and played basketball.

Sponsors are still needed for the traveling trophy and half-time contest. Current sponsors include t-shirt sponsor ISU Insurance & Investment Group, and the Scott County Community Foundation.

All proceeds will benefit the youth of Scott County. The YGC is a program of the Scott County Community Foundation, where youth learn about community service, leadership, teamwork, fundraising and grantmaking.
