A budget hearing for the Transportation Fund, General Fund, and Debt Service Fund took place Tuesday (August 18) in the regular monthly meeting of the Lanesville Board of School Trustees.
Because of the way the process works, the hearing was for 2010.
“We didn’t ask for any big increases,” said interim Lanesville Supt. Sam Gardner, who said that the tax rates in the district could actually go down next year. “You never know what could happen a year from now.”
Another unknown is what the school district’s total assessed evaluation will be the next time around.
In an unrelated matter, the board and Supt. Gardner discussed the flood damage to the baseball diamond and the track in the recent flooding.
The total amount of damage to both facilities is estimated to be $5,000, and Gardner said that the track was completely covered by the flood waters. Little Indian Creek runs through the town of Lanesville, parallel to the north side of SR 62, with the baseball diamond and the track on the north side of Little Indian Creek. The baseball field also received water damage to the outfield in the recent flood.
The board also discussed trying to get a low interest/interest free loan for upgrading the school facilities, the funds coming from the recent Federal Stimulus Package. The funds are distributed from the Indiana State Dept. of Education.
The Lanesville Administration discussed using any funds for upgrading mechanical systems, upgraded boilers, and energy saving measures.
    In other business, the board:

- Appointed Rachel Jones as a Success Center Peer Mentor.
- Approved Gail Harman as Renaissance Sponsor.
- Appointed Mikel Miller as Junior High Cross Country coach.
- Approved Mike Sizemore as Varsity Boys’ Tennis coach.
- Appointed Angela Hood as a 2nd grade teacher. This is a new position added because of large student numbers in the 2nd grade this year.
