Judges had a difficult time selecting the 2009 Little Miss and Little Master of Scott County at the competition conducted Sunday, July 12, in McClain Hall at Scottsburg High School.
Six fairly well-behaved young men were in the Little Master competition, while 12 of the prettiest little girls were led on stage by 2008 Miss Scott County Fair Queen Brooklyn Young.
The contest was filled with chuckles and claps of approval and support by proud family members and friends of the four-, five- and six-year-olds entered in the contest. This year, the contest was held after the 2009 Miss Scott County Fair Queen pageant, and organizers were the ladies of the Pilot Club of Scott County.
After each child was interviewed by emcee Brittany Banister, judges tackled the task of selecting the new Little Miss and Master as well as runners-up for both titles.
Kailee Danielle Campbell, a sweet little blonde and the six-year-old daughter of Kim Jones and Josh Campbell, received the Little Miss title, while Bentley Noah McCrady, a handsome lad of four and son of Erica McCrady, was selected as the Little Master.
Their runners-up were Kyleigh Renee Stover, 4, daughter of Melanie and Denny Robbins and Mark Stover, and Wyatt Scott Zellers, 4, son of Carla and Scott Zellers.
Little Master Bentley plays t-ball in Scottsburg and YMCA soccer. He attended Scottsburg Christian Preschool last year and will return to classes there this fall. He enjoys playing and watching most sports and loves to play with his little sister, their favorite toys being Hot Wheels and Thomas the Train. He also enjoys bicycling and reading. His plans for the future include becoming a baseball player for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Little Miss Kailee loves tumbling and attends class once a week at All Star Tumblers. She also attends Sunday School at the Broadway Street Church of God in Austin each week. She loves animals, especially her English bulldog, Jazz-A-Bell, and, right now, she wants to become a veterinarian when she grows up.
The dynamic Mr. Zellers loves sports, especially baseball and basketball. He also likes to play his drums, jump on the family's trampoline and swim and ride his bike and Big Wheel. He has two big sisters, Lisa and Zoe; two dogs, Major and Izzy; and a cat, Molly.
Kyleigh Stover is looking forward to starting soccer this fall. She enjoys the company of her four puppies and five kittens and also likes her sister's pet rat. Without a doubt, Kyleigh can be found most days in a swimming pool, playing and swimming her summer away.
Making their final appearance that evening as the county's Little Miss and Master were Rachel Reesor, daughter of Brandy Gregory of Scottsburg, and Jordan William Robert Smith, son of Brian and Linda Smith of Lexington. Both appeared on stage to talk just a little about what they had been doing lately.
Each child who entered the contest received a goodie bag, compliments of several local merchants. Both the new Little Miss and Little Master received portraits from Mr. Foto, $50 U.S. Savings bonds from The Scott County State Bank and bike helmets from the Pilot Club of Scott County.
The Little Master competition also included the following young men: Owen Arnold, son of Mandi and Jeremy Arnold; Brandon Deaton, son of Brenda and Michael Deaton; Tristan Marcus Konkler, son of Sarah Konkler and Michael Bautista and Josh and Jessie Konkler; and Caleb Turner, son of Cindy and Scott Turner.
Little Miss competitors included: Mary “Sissy” Alexander, daughter of Mindy and Daniel “Boone” Galliher and Troy Alexander; Haley Marie Cutter, daughter of Brooke Cutter and Harold Robison; Mayci Dakota Furnish, daughter of Eric and Tiffany Payne and Jordan Furnish; Kara Gilstrap, daughter of Srenda and Bobby Gilstrap; Gracee Jade Hedge, daughter of Michelle and Scott Hedge; Carly Danielle Helton, daughter of Sarah and Eric Helton; Ashley Martin, daughter of Melanie and Joe Martin; Breanna Sebastian, daughter of Angela and Ryan Sebastian; Zoe Brooke Zellers, daughter of Carla and Scott Zellers; and Allison Rana Zollman, daughter of Rachelle and Jerry Zollman.
