The Lanesville girls’ tennis squad won a 3-2 decision over the team from Henryville Thursday at the Lanesville courts.
The match was not a Southern Athletic Conference match; the match between the two schools on April 15 was the official conference match. Incidentally, Lanesville won that match 3-2 as well.
Caroline Turcotte, normally Lanesville’s no. 1 singles player, was ill, so instead LeAnne Myers played in the no. 1 position.
Henryville’s Casey Guernsey defeated Myers at no. 1 singles, 7-6, 7-5.
The line up was switched around at several other positions as well.
At no. 2 singles, Lanesville’s Felicia Adamic def. Henryville’s Kelsey Hughes, 6-0, 6-1. And in the no. 3 singles spot, Lanesville’s Taylor Miniard def. Katie Cleveland (Henryville) 6-1, 6-1.
The two teams split wins among the doubles teams.
Henryville’s no. 1 doubles pair of Katie Guernsey and Whitney Guthrie won a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Lanesville’s pair of Rachel Riley and Jenna Walter.
In the no. 2 doubles spot, the Lady Eagles’ duo of Alana Umensetter and Katie Cooke won 6-2, 6-2 over the Lady Hornets pairing of Lindsey Shepland and Megan Irish.
Lanesville coach Sharon Rothrock said that with the conference match between the two schools having already been played, neither she nor Henryville coach Brian Guernsey were “real adamant about where (the players) played. My girls played hard; they did well.”
“I was proud of them. It was a good experience for them.”
