A young woman with a Charlestown address and four young men have been charged in connection with a home burglary that occurred in Scottsburg last December.
Elizabeth C. Wilson, 19, and four youths, all of whom were 17 when the crime occurred, are being charged respectively in Scott Circuit Court and Juvenile Court. Wilson was charged with one count each of conspiracy to commit burglary and aiding burglary, Class B felonies in Circuit Court. The four young men were all 17 at the time of the burglary, which happened December 5, 2008. Three have since turned 18 but are being charged as juveniles because of their ages at the time of the incident.
According to the probable cause affidavit prepared by Lt./Detective Mike Nichols of the Scottsburg Police Department, Wilson and the four young men quickly became suspects because of their association with the victimized family. Two of the four reportedly gave the police detective some of the items that had been listed as stolen the day after the crime was reported., and one of the youths allegedly said that one of his friends admitted to taking the items from the house.
Items taken included Playstations, games, CDs, jewelry, DVDs, iPods and cell phones. One of the four also said he and his friends ate some food while in the house. Wilson was implicated through statements that related she had driven the foursome to a location near the targeted residence that day.
A warrant was issued for Wilson on Friday, May 1. Her bail has been set at $75,000 full cash or corporate surety.
The four youths have been ordered by summons to appear Monday, May 18, in Juvenile Court for 2 p.m. hearings on petitions alleging delinquency. Those delinquency petitions are based on one count each of burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary, both Class B felonies, and one count each of receiving stolen property, a Class D felony.
