On April 20, in the early evening hours, William Dearborn, 31, Scottsburg, turned himself in to the Washington County Jail. William Dearborn was wanted out of Washington County on an arrest warrant that was issued by the Washington County Circuit Court for Possession of Child Pornography, D Felony. The arrest warrant was the result of an investigation that was conducted by Detective Scott Stewart of the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg.
The investigation began in November of 2008, when an official from the Salem Middle School contacted the Indiana State Police about what they thought was some inappropriate material located on one of the school’s computers.
Detective Scott Stewart seized the computer and had the computer’s history examined by New Albany City Police Computer Forensics Detective, Greg Pennell. After the examination it was determined that it contained child pornography. Detective Scott Stewart was able to determine the dates and times that the child pornography was being accessed and it lead Detective Stewart to William Dearborn, who was working evening hours at the school as a janitor. After Detective Stewart interviewed William Dearborn and completed other parts of his investigation he turned the investigation over to the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office. This resulted in the arrest warrant for William Dearborn.
At this time it is believed that no children at the school were able to view the child pornography and none of the images discovered are believed to be of local children.
