|Third annual 5k run or Walk set for June 13|

Englishton Park Presbyterian Ministries in Lexington will sponsor their Third Annual 5k Run or Walk on Saturday, June 13th in conjunction with the 131st Old Settlers Celebration.
Early registration ends with postmarks on or before May 15th. That early fee includes a Commemorative Tee shirt and will be $17. Registration up until the morning of the event will be $20 where some tee shirts will be available to those early registrants. Sign in for the race is between 7:15 and 8 a.m. the day of the race and the race will start at 8:15 a.m.
The event will begin and end on the grounds of Englishton Park, going thru parts of Lexington and along State Road 203 on a scenic, historic course with rolling hills and bubbling brook. This 3.1 mile run or walk will trace part of the Civil War trek of the infamous General John Hunt Morgan. The starting signal for the race will be the firing of a muzzleloader.
Male and female first and second place trophies will be given in the running event as well as in the walking event. Age Group Medallions for male and female winners in each 5-year age group in the run event will be awarded as follows, 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, etc. plus a category for 60 and above.
All profits will benefit Englishton Park’s Summer Children’s Program for children with learning and emotional challenges. This program is starting its 41 year on June 14.
The race is named “The Captain’s Romp” in recognition of Captain William E. English, a Spanish American War veteran, who resided on the grounds purchased by his grandfather and expanded by his father, William H. English.
“Pacer’s and Racers” Shoes from New Albany will again be the primary sponsor, furnishing timing equipment and race day signage. Other local sponsors are being sought as the day of the event nears.
Several door prizes will be drawn for the lucky entrants the morning of the race and there will be coupons from various local merchants in the entrant’s bags that will also hold their tee shirt and race numbers. Discounts will be available at The Hampton Inn in Scottsburg for participants that wish to spend the night the day before or after the event.
To get to the site, proceed 7 miles East of Scottsburg on State Road 56, to State Road 203 South, travel 2.8 Miles South on State Road 203 to Englishton Park. Entrants must be registered between 7:15 and 8 a.m.. Indiana 203 will be closed at 8 a.m. for the race start time of 8:15 and will remain closed for approximately an hour. Race Observers can come into Lexington using Indiana 3 to Indiana 356 between 8 and 9:15 a.m. The parade for The Old Settlers Celebration begins at 11:30 that morning.
