The North Harrison Girls’ Tennis Team won their 15th consecutive title in the Harrison County Girls’ Tennis Tournament Saturday at the Lanesville courts.
They won all five individual spots for a perfect score of 25. The host Lanesville squad amassed a score of 11, and Corydon and South Central scored 5 and 4 points respectively, for 3rd and 4th places.
Despite what looked like dominance by North Harrison, several of the finals matches went to a 3rd set, and North Harrison coach Sheri Shroyer was very happy with the extra effort of her team.
“We were down in a couple of finals,” said Shroyer. “As far as their effort, and their believing in themselves, they persevered and came back.”
“The finals weren’t easy; we weren’t just handed it. It was a battle,” Shroyer said.
A stiff wind in otherwise sunny and warm weather made keeping tabs on the ball more difficult than normal, and Shroyer gave all of the players in meet credit for keeping it in play as much as they did.
“It was windy, so it was difficult conditions,” Shroyer said. “There were close matches; that was good for the county.”
