The Washington County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Wednesday, April 1; all members were present. Minutes of previous meetings, payroll and all claims were approved unanimously.
In an unexpected reversal of their previously stated position, the Commissioners unanimously agreed to reappoint Aaron Lee to the Washington County Memorial Hospital (WCMH) Board of Trustees . At their last meeting in March, the Commissioners rejected a list of three nominees submitted by the hospital board. That list contained Lee's name. At the time, each of the Commissioners expressed concern over the current condition of the hospital and indicated that it would be irresponsible on their parts to reappoint any current members of that board. However, a request made earlier in the the April 1 meeting by Saint Vincent Health (SVH) representative, Gary Fammartino, to reappoint Lee apparently persuaded the Commissioners to reconsider their earlier positions. Fammartino told the Commissioners that Lee has provided outstanding leadership, in general, over the last few years and specifically in the recent negotiations with SVH. Fammartino suggested that it would not be wise to to change hospital leadership at this time. In other business the Commissioners took the following action:
Appointment of Nancy Bush to the Twin Rush Creek Conservancy District
Encumbering 75% of 2009 EDIT Funds for road work projects
Encumbering 25% of 2009 EDIT funds for non-road work, economic development projects
Approving lease of office space for Public Defender's Office
With no further business to conduct, the Commissioners adjourned until their next regularly scheduled meeting on April 15.
