The Pirate Track & Field team began their season last Wednesday evening, April 1, versus Providence, New Washington and South Central.  The boys team finished first, accumulating 80 points on 14 first place finishes by Clay Daniel, Aaron May, Justin Baxtron, Kyle Jenkins, Josh King, Daniel Taylor, and Michael Baines.
The Pirates also scored on 4 second place and 6 third place finishes.
Pirate Justin Baxtron set a new school record in the 100 meter dash by finishing with a time of 10.6 seconds, after Michael Baines had just tied the school record at 10.9 seconds minutes earlier.
The thrower group of Jordan White, Clay Daniel, Brandon Lyons, and Tyler Lyons also set an unofficial school record by defeating Providence in a "Big Man Challenge 400 Meter Relay" with a time of 55 seconds.
The Lady Pirate Track & Field team, consisting of Samantha Farmer, Corrie Jeter, Cara Rhoten, Sophia Higazy, Emily Dahmer, and Katie Burkhart also started their season off on a good note. Despite low numbers, the girls were able to gain 16 points against the much larger squads of Providence, New Washington, and South Central.
