Spring clean-up in Scottsburg will begin Monday, April 20, according to a recent announcement by Jason Applegate, Superintendent of the city’s Streets and Sanitation Departments.
City trucks will go over the entire community one time. They will start north on State Road 56 and travel east of U.S. Highway 31. Crews will then work their way north and back down the west side of U.S. 31 to the fairgrounds.
From there, they will go back up the east side of U.S. 31 to S.R. 56.
Applegate noted that the process could take up to three weeks to complete, depending on weather conditions and the amount of trash being cleared out by Scottsburg residents.
He cautioned that residents who place items out at curbside after crews have passed the residence will pay a pick-up charge for trucks to come back and get the items.
Only household items will be allowed in this clean-up effort. Small items should be put in boxes or bags.
Items that will not be accepted include tires and remodeling or contractor materials as well as automotive parts or out-buildings. Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners will not be picked up unless freon has been removed and a certified sticker is on the item.
Applegate also said if outsiders bring trash to be picked up with city customers’ trash, the trash at that location will not be picked up, and the resident at that address could be subject to a citation.
