|Salem Common Council meeting|

The Salem Common Council met in regular session on Tuesday, March 10 will all members except “Pete” Brown present; Brown is recovering from back surgery. The minute of previous meetings, payroll, and all claims were aproved unanimously.
The following items were addressed by the Council and the Mayor:
Mayor David Bower presented several Certificates of Appreciation to various individuals and organizations.
Financial Statement for February, 2009 and the repayment of two temporary loans from 2008.
Senior Center Report.
Under unfinished business:
- Unanimous approval of a request for designated handicapped parking at 202 N. Water Street.
- 1st reading of ordinance authorizing the use of credit cares and purchasing cards by city official and employees.
- 1st reading of draft ordinance regarding pauper burials.
Under new business:
- Unanimous approval of recommendations to extend tax abatements fo John Jones GM City and for Future Development.
- Ordinance regarding certification of operators at water department.
- 1st reading of ordinance authorizing withdrawal from IURC.
- Unanimous approval of transfer ordinance within the Fire Department budget.
- Discussion of the lack of accountability of Airport Fixed Based Operator to the city in general and the Mayor specifically. Discuss between Bower and Board of Aviation Commissions Attorney Larry Medlock focused on attempts to work out an arrangement suitable to both parties. No resolution was reached.
As the final agenda item to come before the Council, Chamber of Commerce (CC) President Hank Jacoby made a presentation updating recent efforts of the CC to rejuvenate itself.
With no further business to conduct, the Council adjourned until its next regularly scheduled meeting on April 13.
