Scottsburg police are seeking the public’s assistance in obtaining information on the perpetrator in the city’s most recent armed robbery.
Shortly after 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, Sgt. Joe Nicholson and Sgt. Brian Hall were dispatched to Coonie’s Tobacco Store close to Scottsburg’s downtown area. The store had been robbed by a young man armed with a pistol, they were told.
Officers were joined by Deputies Don Campbell and Joe Johnson and Reserve Deputy Lonnie Combs of the Sheriff’s Department.
A store employee described the robber as a white male about 5-6 in height and weighing perhaps 140 pounds. He had reddish hair, the woman recalled, and had a stubbly beard or goatee. He was wearing a dark green hoodie, gold hoop earrings and blue jeans.
After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, the man ran from the store in an unknown direction.
A check of the neighborhood resulted in one young man being questioned, but he was eliminated. Two people said they might have seen the man as he left the store, but no suspects could be located by the officers.
Scottsburg police would like to learn if anyone else in the area might have seen the man around the store or on nearby streets. Chief Delbert Meeks said people can leave information by calling the station at 752-4462 or by dialing the 24-hour Tip Line at 752-2235.
