Harrison County Hospital has received accreditation for its Nuclear Medicine Services from the American College of Radiology (ACR). Accreditation by the ACR is voluntary and involves the submitting of images, documentation of quality control procedures, competency and on-going education of the Radiologists and Nuclear Medicine Technologists reading and performing the studies.
ACR began accrediting imaging facilities in 1992. The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer review evaluation of its’ imaging practice. Image quality and procedure evaluations are conducted by board certified radiologists and medical physicists who are experts in their field. The program also evaluates personnel qualifications, adequacy of the facilities equipment and quality assurance programs. All findings are reported to the facility by a comprehensive report that includes recommendations for improvement.
Harrison County Hospital is the only hospital in the area whose Nuclear Medicine Services are currently accredited by the ACR. When you choose an ACR accredited facility for your imaging needs you can be assured that:
-    Your hospitals imaging department has voluntarily gone through a rigorous review process to be sure it meets nationally accepted standards.
-    The personnel performing your exam are well qualified, through education and certification, to perform and interpret your nuclear medicine study.
-    The equipment is appropriate for the test you will receive and the facility meets or exceeds quality standards and safety guidelines.
Harrison County Hospital employs two registered and certified Nuclear Medicine Technologists, Adam Miller, CNMT and Kris Hunt, CNMT, who were instrumental in achieving the coveted ACR accreditation. The Nuclear Medicine Department performs almost 2500 Nuclear Medicine exams annually. Dr. Chris Day, Radiologist and Diagnostic Imaging Medical Director said, “We are really excited to be awarded the ACR accreditation. Harrison County Hospital has always been a quality driven hospital and the accreditation proves our dedication to continue to bring the highest quality medical care to Harrison and surrounding counties. The combination of very high quality equipment and personnel has allowed us to offer nuclear medicine procedures that are in most cases only offered in much larger hospitals.”
