?    There had been much hype in Southern Indiana about the battle for the Mid-Southern Conference title.
Most people picked either Silver Creek or Salem to take the crown, but Scottsburg was undefeated in MSC play and Salem had one loss going into their Friday, January 16, game.  The Warriors had been a little bit of a sleeper, and if they could protect their home court, they would be in good position with only games against Clarksville and Silver Creek remaining.
Gunner Erwin and the Lions had other ideas for the Warriors however. They played tough in Meyer Gym, taking a 24-22 lead into halftime.
The third quarter went Salem’s way, the score being 39-31 when the buzzer sounded.
Most fans that follow Scottsburg basketball know that the Warriors have been a fourth quarter team this season, but again, the Lions had different ideas. Erwin led the Lions, outscoring Scottsburg 25-9 in the fourth to take a 64-40 win on the road and giving the Warriors their first conference loss.
Matt Bridgewater and Mason Gregory led the team scoring with 12, and Erwin led Salem with 16.
Scottsburg in theory would have had to win against Salem to have a share of the title, but the Brownstown Braves lent a helping hand, knocking off Silver Creek to give all teams atop the MSC standings one loss and taking that contest back to square one again.
