?    Dust those bowling shoes off and prepare for a day of fun at the 10th Annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser, planned for Sunday, February 22, at the Scottsburg Bowling Lanes.
This year’s goal is to raise $5,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washington County. Although the event will be held in Scottsburg, all money raised will go directly to the local agency.
Big Brothers Big Sisters has been a part of Washington County for almost 13 years. Since that time, community volunteers have been paired with children and youth in one-to-one mentoring relationships.
Organizers for this year’s Bowl for Kids Sake event are: JoLynn Allen, Laura Bishop, Denise Newkirk, Emily Siler, Stephanie Ferriell and Joy Bierly.
“You don’t have to know how to bowl,” said Siler, who’s president of this year’s Big Brothers Big Sisters advisory council. “It’s all about having fun helping kids.”
All it takes to participate in this event is to form a three- to four-member bowling team, raise a minimum of $30 per each member and bring in all donations on the day of the event for a free hour of bowling. Participants will also receive free shoe rental, free pizza and soft drinks, a Bowl For Kids’ Sake T-shirt and the chance to win door prizes.
As an extra incentive this year, additional prizes will be awarded to those who raise $50, coupons for Arby’s restaurant and a Big Brothers Big Sisters drawstring backpack, and $100, a Big Brothers Big Sisters sweatshirt and a “Mystery Gift Bag” of the participant’s choice.
Grand prizes will be given to those individuals who raise the most money for the event. Prizes are: first place - $100 cash and second place - $50 cash. The team that raises the most money will receive gift certificates to Papa John’s Pizza.
Bowling packets, which contain team registration materials, are now available. They may be delivered or picked up at the Big Brothers Big Sisters office, located at 201 Jeans Drive.
