??    The Lanesville Board of School Trustees renewed the coverage of school personnel with Anthem, continuing the coverage they already have. The renewal was for one more year.
“There was a 3 percent increase in the premium,” said Supt. Sam Gardner, who said that the price of the insurance premiums is based on a number of factors, such as “the loss ratios; what your claim history is.”
After 41 years of service to the Lanesville Community Schools, thirrd grade teacher Michelle England was feted at a retirement reception last Friday morning (as part of the school’s Christmas program) by the school. She taught her entire career at Lanesville.
Nathan Barnickle has been hired as England’s appointment for the third grade. He grew up in Lanesville, and attended the Lanesville Community Schools.
And in another major personnel issue, Supt. Sam Gardner has stated that it is time for the corporation to begin the hiring process for a permanent superintendent. He said, “The board is presently starting to go through the posting and interview process. They’ll do that after the first of the year.”
The board also received three facility use requests. The Lanesville Youth League will use the high school gym and commons area for registration and tryouts on Jan. 22-24, and Feb. 7, 2009. The Franklin Twp. Farm Bureau will use the cafeteria for four meetings in 2009, on February 10, May 12, August 11, and November 10. And last, the Lanesville Junior High Volleyball Club team will use the elementary gym on Sundays from 1-4 p.m., from December 14, 2008 to April 18, 2009.
    In other business, the board:
    •    Accepted a donation of $100 from the Lanesville Lions Club for the elementary brain drain.
    •    Gave approval to hire peer tutors for the January 2009 intercession.
    •    Approved contracts for the January 2009 intercession for the following school personnel: Nancy Rupp, Brian Book, Lindsay Davis, Jerry Geswein, Erin Green, Jeff Hammond, and Robin Wolfe.
    •    Gave approval of bus drivers for January 2009 intersession: David Schmelz, Richard Haines, and Tim Bridges (substitute).
