?? Past basketball players for the Austin High School Eagles who were named to a Mid-Southern All-Conference Team during their careers are receiving special invitations to be on hand on Saturday night, December 20, at Rigel Gym. On that evening, the AHS Athletic Department plans to recognize former Eagles who were named to such teams as part of a 50-year anniversary celebration of the school’s history with the MSC. A small gathering for these former players and their families is being planned following the Eagles’ game with Lanesville. The event will be held in the elementary cafeteria. According to school records, 29 players have been named to All-Conference Teams during those 50 years. Those being invited include J.D. Helton, James Bush, Eugene Helton, Tom Rigdon, Charlie Brandenburg, Jimmie Robinson, Gary D. Hollan, Mike Sexton, Carl Smith, Burt Sexton, James Blanton, Keith Sexton, Mike Barrett, Eddie Taylor, John R. Deaton, Harold Lewis, Jeff Tracy, Jerry Goodin, Ritchie Deaton, John W. Deaton, Brad Bogard, Mark Lueking, Rickie Coomer, Joey Napier, Virgil Bruce Johnson, Richard Mullins, Anthony Winchester, Brian Johnson and Jeremy Holland. Invitees are being asked to contact Athletic Director Mike Deaton by calling him at 794-8734 as soon as possible. “We would like to honor and remember these athletic accomplishments in our school’s history. We’re hoping many of these players will be able to be on hand,” stated Deaton. |
