Though some tips have been received by the Scottsburg Police Department about the February 4 robbery of Centra Credit Union’s branch at Wal-Mart, there’s been no break-through news yet in the case.

Lt./Detective Mike Nichols is the lead investigator in the case. He’s been actively seeking information about the identity of the  short, graying man who walked up to the counter around 8 p.m. and demanded all the money in the drawers.

The robber told the three bank staff members that if they did not comply, he’d shoot them and “...all these people out here,” apparently indicating shoppers in the area. The man never displayed a weapon to the women. No one was harmed.

Photos of the robber can be found on the SPD’s website. He was described as a short white male, perhaps 5-4 or 5-6 in height and weighing 170 to 190 lbs. He had a light gray “5 o’clock shadow” type beard and perhaps was in his 40s or 50s. The man was wearing a light gray hooded sweatshirt and billed hat, which he had pulled up around his face and glasses.

He was also wearing blue jeans and what looked like Sperry-brand boat shoes.

After having the tellers put the cash in a zipper daybook, the man walked out.

About a third of the way across the Wal-Mart parking lot, he began to run. The amount of money he received has not been disclosed. He ran back to the tree line separating the Wal-Mart parking lot from the Meadowview Apartments.

Persons with information about the man is asked to call Detective Mike Nichols or any officer at the department at 812-752-4462. They can also call the 24-hour Scottsburg PD Tip Line at 812-752-2333 and leave information anonymously.
