Work is progressing on Interstate 65, but the ever-present orange barrels are still a part of the landscape between Scottsburg and Austin, as motorists can well attest.
Because paving work is continuing, the following lane and ramp closures for the entire week were announced by the Indiana Department of Transportation late last week:
•Northbound left lane at the 28.5 mile marker.
•Southbound right lane at the 38.0 mile marker.
•Northbound right lane at the 42.0 mile marker.
•Southbound right lane at the 50.5 mile marker.
Two ramps at the U.S. Highway 50 interchange in Seymour will also be closed all week. They include:
•The eastbound U.S. 50 ramp to northbound I-65.
•The northbound I-65 ramp to westbound U.S. 50.
To the south of Scott County, repairs to the I-65 northbound approaches to the Lewis and Clark Parkway overpass bridge are beginning this week. Crews are starting to remove concrete pavement in northbound I-65 lanes near the Lewis and Clark bridge. The lanes have noticeably dropped and so will be repaired and concrete replaced over the next three weeks.
As of Thursday, October 23, all northbound motorists will be shifted to the right as crews work to the left at the 3.8 mile marker.
Three travel lanes should remain open at all times, according to INDOT.
In Phase 2 of the project, the I-65 ramp at Exit 5 to Veterans Parkway in Clarksville will be closed for 1½ weeks. Drivers should use Exit 4 to access Veterans Parkway during that time.
In two weeks, Phase 2 of this project will occupy the right side of northbound I-65 at the Lewis and Clark Parkway overpass. Motorists will be shifted to the three left lanes while the work is completed.
INDOT’s contractors are also working on the southbound I-65 exit to westbound Interstate 265. Traffic has been shifted to the  ramp shoulder, and an 11-foot-wide restriction on all vehicles is being enforced. This work is expected to conclude and all of the exit reopened today or on Thursday.
In construction zones, the 45 mph speed limit is in effect and will be enforced.
