Volunteers for the annual Kids First Auction are gearing up for this year’s charity event, to be held on Saturday, November 22.
The event will fill the Knights of Columbus Hall on U.S. Highway 31 North in Scottsburg starting at 9 a.m. on that Saturday and continuing until all lots are sold. The auction raises money to help children and families in Scott County in need. Kids First is also are a major supporter of the Scott County Community Clearinghouse. “We appreciate every business owner and those private individuals who support our efforts to help those in difficult times. This year may turn out to be especially important with the economy dragging like it is,” said Walker Ed Amick, a spokesman for the organization.
“We have been doing this auction for years, and each time we are amazed on the heartfelt giving we experience. We have done so much good that sometimes it gives me pause for thought,” Amick continued. “No one in our organization has any agenda other than helping those who may be experiencing some really tough times. I see things accomplished by our efforts raising money only once a year and on one day. It just shows what a wonderful county we live in.”
Volunteers are busy already staging the items collected so far for the event and continue to look for more so that all will be ready when the event starts at 9 a.m. on the November 22.
For those wishing to contribute in some way, call 752-5854 or contact Amick at 595-0137. Persons can watch the event and bid on items in three ways, by tuning to Insight Cable Community Channel 25; viewing the Internet broadcast at scottcounty.tv; or by coming to the Knights of Columbus Hall and enjoying it as it happens.
Amick said, “Never before has this been such an important time to help others in our county. There are a lot of children and families hurting, and I am afraid it may only get worse for a while. Our sole goal is to be there when no one else is there to help. I urge everyone, if they can, to help us in some small way.”
