Can you hear me now?
That may be a question asked less frequently by folks living in and around Pekin thanks to a new tower inserted just outside town hall.
Town Manager Gary Nale said the tower is the result of an agreement between Verizon and the Pekin Water Utility.
The water company leases the land the tower sits on for $9,000 a year. It’s a five year lease, that renews automatically and increases every five years.
“It’s a win-win for the town,” Nale said. “The income helps keep our water and sewer rates down and plus, Verizon customers should have a very strong signal.”
Nale said the town started complaining to Verizon more than two years ago about dropped calls and lack of signals.
The new tower will likely take care of all of the complaints.
